It is no coincidence that the neighborhood where it is located most of the Tijuca National Park is known as Alto da Boa Vista (Hill of the Good View). With an average altitude of 300 meters, the site is surrounded by the forest and has many lookouts with breathtaking views of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), the city of Rio de Janeiro and the sea.

Without water there is no life

Water - Tijuca National Park

Besides being a place of recreation and sports for the Rio, or an important wildlife refuge, the Tijuca Forest is also responsible for the maintenance of water sources in the region.
In the mid-nineteenth century was precisely the lack of water that caused the alarm of the need to restore the forest that protected the sources that supplied the capital of the Empire. And this function remains active even today, with the uncontrolled growth of urban population.
But the forest has much more to offer. Thanks to her soil erosion is controlled as well as the occurrence of floods. And without it the average temperature in the city would be approximately 10 º C hotter!
